Fruits form an integral part of human diet as they not only provide us the fibre content but are a ready source minerals, vitamins and carbohydrates. Although we have refined our production technologies to extent that able produce sufficient quantities fruits still post-harvest management storage life is bit concern liable spoilage due high moisture content. For nutritional security growing masses, it essential preserve protect them from by using novel techniques. One such technique use coatings on surface which would act insulation between fruit internal environment external atmosphere. An edible coating has been shown shield fruit, change environment, reduce loss water prolong shelf life. This review highlights advances made in field technology its impact fruits. Preventing postharvest losses most important challenge horticulture commodities. Edible sustainable alternative traditional plastic packaging, non-biodegradable nature pollutes environment. Functional can alter inner while also increasing food's value produced developed.
